AEO & GEO: Getting Recommended by AI
Getting recommended by AI assistants: the new search land grab.
What AEO and GEO mean for your business
AEO (Answer Engine Optimization) and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) are the practice of shaping your digital presence so AI assistants, ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, recommend you when someone asks, "who's the best real estate agent near me?" That question is being asked right now, in your market, and the AI is answering with somebody's name.
This is the new search land grab. It looks like SEO did in its early days: the agents who move first get outsized visibility because almost nobody else is competing yet. Be known before you're needed has a new address, and it's the AI answer box.

How Krista Mashore Coaching teaches it
KMC treats AEO as a system, not a trick. Students learn to audit their digital presence with AI itself, asking ChatGPT and Claude why they don't surface for local queries, then fix what the audit finds: entity clarity (who you are, where you serve, what you're the expert in), question-based content that answers what clients actually ask, and authority signals AI engines look for.
It's taught inside KMC Mastery and BOSS alongside classic SEO, because the same content can rank on Google and get cited by AI when it's built right.
The method, step by step
Step one, audit: ask the AI engines about your market, see who they name, and find out why it isn't you. Step two, build your entity: consistent name, geography, specialty, and proof across your site and profiles. Step three, publish answer-shaped content: direct, question-led articles about your market that an AI can quote confidently. Step four, reinforce: reviews, local signals, and the AI Brain-powered content engine, so the coverage compounds weekly.
AEO & GEO by audience
Listing agents aim it at "who should sell my house" queries. Buyer agents win the relocation and first-timer questions asked to AI every day. New agents can outrank veterans because the field is nearly empty. Teams and brokers build entity authority for the whole brand, and lenders get named when borrowers ask AI how to finance in their market.
Who owns your website?
None of this works on a site you can't change, and many agents' sites belong to a brokerage or a vendor. Krista's ownership test is blunt: "Whose name is the hosting on? Okay? If the person who built your website disappears, What happens?" Ask whoever runs your site four things. Is the hosting in your name? Is the domain in your name? Who has the login, and how often are changes made to keep it current? Could you take everything and move it today, without calling anyone?
Her advice if the answers are bad: "Don't spend a bunch of money on a website that nobody can find. Or that AI can't read." An agent site you own, that AI can read, goes with you if you change brokerages.
Proof and next step
The clearest proof is a two-minute test: ask an AI assistant who the go-to agent in your market is. If the answer isn't you, that's the gap this closes. The free AI webinar shows the full presence-building system live.
Frequently asked questions
Is AEO different from SEO?
Related, not identical. SEO earns rankings in search results; AEO earns citations and recommendations inside AI answers. They share foundations, clear entity, useful content, authority signals, and KMC teaches them together so one effort feeds both.
Do people really ask AI for agent recommendations?
Yes, buyers and sellers increasingly ask AI assistants who to work with before they ever search or call, the same way search replaced the phone book. The shift is why KMC moved AEO to the front of the curriculum.
How long does it take to show up in AI answers?
It varies by market and starting presence, so KMC doesn't promise timelines. The pattern is consistent though: markets have little AEO competition today, so focused entity and content work moves the needle faster than classic SEO usually did.
