3 Common Mistakes To Avoid As A Real Estate Agent

Today, we will talk about the 3 common mistakes to avoid as a real estate agent. First of all, a lot of real estate agents leave the field in their first year. Why? It is because they think that they are not being successful, but why? What are they doing? What are they not doing? Well, here are tips on what to avoid if you are a real estate agent. Remember, always learn from the ones who did it!

Treat Your Business Like A Real Business

One of the biggest mistakes that I see real estate agents making, whether they're new in the business or they're experienced agents, is that they don't take their job seriously. In other words, what I find is that it's so easy to get into real estate, it doesn't take a lot to get into real estate. In fact, as a manicurist or a hairdresser, you need more education and training than a real estate agent does.

With real estate, you can make so much money and people don't understand that you really have to put in the time, the attention, and the detail into real estate. You want to treat real estate as if it's a regular full-time plus job. That means getting up every single day, being on a routine, having a schedule, showing up to the office or to your Zoom office or whatever it might be, to your computer, at the same time every single day.

They Don't Have A Schedule

The second thing that agents make, a mistake that agents make, is they don't follow a schedule. You want to follow a schedule, I'll give you an idea of what I mean by this. I know that every single week it's really important that I create a lot of content, so I have a schedule that I do. Monday, I will do research and I'll educate myself about what's happening in the market, what's happening locally, what's happening nationally, what's happening in the real estate market.

Then Tuesday, I will then take the information that I studied and I will record content on Tuesday, I'll record two to three videos about what's happening in the real estate market. Then Wednesday, I'll take that video and I'll either edit it myself, which I don't recommend, or I'll have it edited, I'll send it off to get edited. Then as soon as I get that video back, I then create an ad campaign around that video. Make sure that you are following a schedule all the time.

It's really, really important to know what's happening in the market, understand different neighborhoods, price points of homes in the neighborhoods, what's nearby those neighborhoods, what makes one neighborhood more desirable than another, what are the school scores in a neighborhood?

You want to research everything that's happening in your local market, in your area. If you specialize in an area, you want to make sure that you're constantly creating content on a daily basis about that area, about what's happening. That was another mistake that a lot of a lot of agents make, is they don't follow any type of schedule at all, and so follow, follow a schedule.

Not Creating Enough Content

Then lastly, one of the biggest mistakes that I see not just real estate agents make, but pretty much any profession out there, and that is the fact that they are not creating enough content. They're just telling everyone how great they are and they're not serving. Serve, don't sell. Serve, don't sell. I can say this over and over and over again.

You want to become what I call a community market leader. In fact, I have that word trademarked. A community market leader is somebody who goes above and beyond in their community, who adds value, who's a trusted go-to resource, who anytime anybody thinks real estate, they think of this person, any the time they think community or your area, they think of this person. This person is a go-giver, they add value. They are figuring out what the problems are in their community, both in real estate and not, and they are being the solution to that problem and creating a massive amount of content around that problem so they can be the go-to trusted resource.

Conclusion

Those are the three things that I suggest that any real estate agent does and sticks to. Here's the thing, you might be thinking, “Well, Krista, that's too easy. Aren't you going to teach me how to build one of your funnels that you do or teach me how to create an award-winning ad?” If you can't do those things, it doesn't make a difference, you won't be able to build a funnel.,You won't be able to create an ad. You have got to be able to stick to a schedule, you've got to be committed and treat your job like a job, and you've got to be consistently creating content correctly, getting it out there to the masses in your local area so that you can become known as the go-to expert.
